Event Details

EuroCham's Real Estate & Construction Forum is back once again on 23rd May 2023. This flagship event is a one-of-a-kind for the sector in Cambodia, and is expected to draw high attention from relevant stakeholders, including private businesses and ministries.

Like in previous years, this event will bring together professionals and enthusiasts from the European and Cambodian business communities in the real estate and construction sector. Our experienced speakers will discuss challenges and opportunities in the Kingdom through presentations and panel discussions, and share their experiences with 200+ guests expected to be in attendance.

A special exhibition of architectural models will also be on display during the event. The students who designed them will be on hand to offer detailed insight into their work, and we hope you will in turn share your expertise with them!

Each attendee will have a chance to win a prize during our lucky draw!

    13:30 - 14:15Workshop 1: Phnom Penh: A Green and Liveable City ?
The word of the moderator, Ms Melita Koulmandas : “A Green City is one that prioritises the health and wellbeing of its inhabitants, as well as the preservation of natural resources. This can include measures such as implementing green transportation options, promoting energy efficiency, and protecting local ecosystems. By improving the green environment, this ensures rich biodiversity, reduces air pollution, ensures water storage, dampens noise and helps cooling down in warm periods.”

The last RE and Construction forum in Phnom Penh was held in 2019 (Pre Covid) and at that time there was very little discussion around the importance of having Public Parks and Green areas as an integral part of a liveable city.
During Covid however, we saw a shift as Phnom Penh’s residents all headed outdoors, enjoying every piece of green space in and around the city.
Post Covid, we see continued demand for more public spaces, with residents asking for more parks and more greenery. We are also seeing more and more developers start to integrate green space within the building, and in some cases surrounding areas.

During our panel discussion will hear from experts from both the Public and Private sector and deep dive into how possible it is for a city like Phnom Penh to become a “Green City” We will hear their views for how important they think this is; what the largest challenges are that they face; and how these can be potentially be overcome."

    Melita Koulmandas

    14:15 - 15:00Workshop 2: Innovation technology and energy saving
The word of the Moderator, Mr Serge Pak : "Innovative technology materials in construction can improve energy efficiency, particularly in Cambodia
that face challenges in addressing climate change. Cambodia has launched a Climate Change Strategic
Plan 2014-2023 to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 27% by 2030. The construction industry
contributes significantly to global energy consumption and carbon emissions, with traditional materials
like concrete and steel being major contributors. Innovative materials can reduce embodied energy,
improve thermal insulation, and reduce energy consumption. Promoting these materials in the
construction industry can significantly reduce global energy consumption and carbon emissions, leading
    to a more sustainable future."

The word of the moderator, Mr Simon Griffiths : " Present Deutsches Haus as a ‘best-in-class’ example of how European design and construction standards, materials, technology, maintenance and management have been combined to become a case study for Environmental Building Standards in Vietnam while being commercially successful and one of the most desirable and respected commercial properties in HCMC.
Highlight the use of quality, environmentally sustainable materials and design and how this can result in commercial success and not just additional cost – the value-add to landlords and tenants.
Challenges in developing and managing, relevance and lessons that can be learnt in respect of Cambodia."

    16:05 - 16:50Workshop 4: Sihanoukville vision : a model city ?
The word of the moderator, Mr Michel Cassagnes: ''As Cambodia's principal access to maritime trade and coastal tourism, the rapid development of Sihanoukville is not only coveted but also widely debated. After an
economic and real estate boom, driven primarily by overseas investments, the new regulations on gambling and the Covid crisis have left the City with roughly a thousand of abandoned buildings.

Now Sihanoukville takes the direction of a brighter future with significant infrastructure and service improvement.

The objective of this panel discussion is to give some answers to the private sector about the future master plan, which aims to transform Sihanoukville into a
multipurpose SEZ. Good opportunity for the audience and private sector to share their vision on prospective developments!
