ARISE+ Cambodia* and EuroCham, are proud to have launched a 10-event series on the topic of "Export Information for SMEs" over 2021, 2022, and 2023. Roughly once per quarter, GIZ ARISE+ and EuroCham hosted an event that shares topics of relevance for Cambodia's SMEs and exporting companies. The primary objective is to raise awareness of issues, offer tips that can support Cambodian companies improve their business and export performance, and break down the opportunities & challenges SMEs may face when beginning to export.
Event 10 is titled "SME Export of Services: Understanding How Services Can Be Exported" andaims to provide a general understanding of the services export market for Cambodia today.
In this SME Export Talk, we will hear success stories and lessons learned from operators of successful service exporters. We will hear examples representing Cambodia's most exported services, including dentistry (medical tourism), website & applications development, tourism, and a nascent digital marketing and consulting services business. Each will be presented as a case study on how to find the market and buyers for your services, and how to access your chosen export market.
You'll also have the chance to interact & engage with the exporting SMEs via Q&A, with the aim of contributing to the creation of a new generation and community of Services Exporters.
Services Exports: Background
Cambodia's total exports in 2019 were valued at $14.82B, and 41.05% of that figure was the export of services. There was a drastic drop in the export of services in 2019 caused by Covid-19 which, of course, particularly impacted Cambodia's number one service export, tourism. With the pandemic in the past, recovery to 2018 levels and beyond is now expected. As Cambodia develops, its percentage of GDP from services is also expected to grow and Cambodia has the potential to become a regional outsourcing destination for software development, call centres, a destination for medical tourism, and more.
