Phnom Penh governor Khoung Sreng said today that the size of Red Zones in Phnom Penh will be reduced, as the number of new daily COVID-19 cases decreases.

Authorities will work to reduce the size of the Red Zones from commune to village or households, he said, while inspecting COVID-19 vaccinations in Toul Kork district, Phnom Penh.

“We are evaluating the situation in Red Zones with inline officials and based on the decrease in new cases infected with COVID-19 it shows that we are about to be successful [in controlling COVID-19 community infection],” Sreng said.

The number of new cases infected with COVID-19 in Phnom Penh has decreased from about 500 per day to about 200 per day, he added.

People in Red Zones will be allowed to travel inside the zones once they are reduced.

The Red Zones in Phnom Penh are currently in nine communes of five districts.
