Government decides to subsidise cost of food, clean water and electricity to families in Red Zones

The Royal Government of Cambodia has decided to subsidise the cost of food, clean water and electricity to families living in closed areas in Phnom Penh, Takhmao and Sihanoukville and in poverty.

They will receive between  160,000 riel to more than 300,000 riel.

This is according to the press release on the implementation of the program “Social assistance in cash after the closure” to support the families of people with low living standards and who are facing difficulties after the implementation of large-scale lockdown measures and cash social assistance for families who have died from the virus and families who have been infected with Covid-19 and are experiencing financial difficulties.

Target edfamilies in Phnom Penh, Takhmao and Sihanoukville who will receive this support include: families of drivers, construction workers, street vendors, market clerks, garbage collectors and entertainment workers, among others.

The recipients will be assessed by local authorities with the support of volunteers under the supervision and coordination of the Ministry of Planning through telephone interviews in areas that are not yet safe from Covid-19 infection or through face-to-face interviews.
