The Ministry of Justice and Cambodia Chamber of Commerce (CCC) met yesterday to  discuss the establishment of a commercial court in order to make the investment and business environment in Cambodia more attractive.

Chiev Songhak, Secretary of States at Ministry of Justice, Lim Heng, Vice President of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, Ngoun Meng Tech, director-general of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce and co-chairs of 13 government-private working groups attended the virtual meeting.

The aim of the meeting was to discuss and seek further understanding on the law and other legal procedures both national and international, according to the CCC. Inputs from the co-chairs of government-private working groups were collected for formulating the commercial court.

Lim Heng said that the soon-to-be established commercial court is important to building confidence among investors and businessmen in Cambodia.

“Once established, the commercial court will provide confidence and specification to both national and international businessmen, investors and traders in Cambodia,” he said.

More talks are needed to be held as both parties wish to see the court established soon, according to CCC.

Currently, business disputes in Cambodia are primarily solved via the National Commercial Arbitration Centre. Serious disputes are adjudicated through the criminal courts.
