The prospect of reopening the regional tourism sector was one of the key points of discussion during the 54th ASEAN National Tourism Organisations (NTOs) meeting.

The meeting was held on July 7, and the report of the topic of interest was reported by the Ministry of Tourism. The meeting was chaired by the Director General of the Ministry of Tourism’s Tourism Development and International Cooperation General Department, Thong Rathasak.

The meeting was also focused on the ASEAN Tourism Marketing Strategy 2021-2025, Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity 2025 for the implementation of the Enhanced ASEAN Tourism Digital Platforms.

As tourism plays a major role in most of the ASEAN countries’ economies, it is important that those countries be able to open their doors to tourists. With the international plummet in world economies during the course of this pandemic, restarting of key economic sectors is important.

The meeting also covered the hygiene guidelines and safety for workers in the tourism industry, the policies and recommendations for the recovery of tourism after the pandemic, and more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient tourism in the ASEAN nations.
